I write, design systems, build tools and make sense of digital messes
For over 15 years, I've used plain language, UX design and information architecture to make complicated things feel simple. I build systems and tools that make hard things easier to do.
At Duolingo, I founded two disciplines and a product area focused on design technology innovation across animation, illustration, AI for design, prototyping, writing, localization and audio design. Among other things, we built a procedural animation tool that made $90M for the company in 2025.
I led UX for Instagram’s GDPR rollout, explaining European data privacy laws to hundreds of millions of people. Then directed our approach to data privacy design as part of the Meta rebrand.
I founded both Instagram's first content design team and their first design systems team (and I got to name the filters).

I tell stories
I talk about my work at conferences and events. I also make films, and created 2 seasons of a podcast called The Hardest Part.
